ROI is a hot topic right now because times are pretty tough. If you can justify the short-term cost with short and medium-term gains, you’ll have a pretty good chance of getting management to see that it’s worth the ivestmetn to implement SharePoint.

Here are a few areas where I have seen companies realize short-term ROI with their SharePoint Deployment:

1. Simplify and automate your organization's business processes with SharePoint to “do more with less” and reduce hard costs. I have seen companies improve the ratio of client service staff to operations staff by streamlining their core business processes and integrating their systems using Microsoft SharePoint Office SharePoint Server 2007.

2. Cut costs with document imaging. Use imaging software, such as KnowledgeLake, to transform SharePoint into a production imaging system capable of meeting high-volume needs. KnowledgeLake Imaging Server eliminates the costs and challenges of using paper documents, as well as the limitations it puts on your business processes.

3. There are also some important srategies & tools to lower your SharePoint total cost of ownership to help show management the ROI. I believe that as companies increasingly rely on SharePoint to store business-critical digital assets, these requirements become crucial catalysts for optimal production and minimized exposure to costly downtime and data loss. Tools such as AvePont's DocAve reduce the cost to support a mission-critical SharePoint environment.
